Parents are often the first to notice if there is a delay in their child’s speech and language development. Your child’s speech may not be clear or your child may use shorter sentences than other children the same age. Both social and academic success depends on well-developed speech and language skills. Your child may be having difficulty developing these skills if:
The child is not understood by peers or unfamiliar adults.
The child is frustrated when trying to communicate.
The child struggles to find words or organize ideas and sentences.
The child has difficulty understanding and following directions.
The child struggles answering questions or engaging in social interactions.
If any of these problems exist, or you have other concerns, your child may benefit from a speech and language evaluation. Private services are available and are often a covered benefit through your medical insurance. If your child is receiving speech services or did not qualify at school, they may still be eligible for private services.
Collaboration with parents, teachers, day care providers and a Speech Language Pathologist is the best way to help your child develop their speech and language skills. Please contact my office for a speech and language screening/consultation to determine if your child may benefit from a speech and language evaluation and speech therapy.
